Braathen SAFE Flight 239 was a flight between Ålesund Airport, Vigra and Oslo Airport, Fornebu which crashed in Asker on 23 December 1972, killing 40 people.
The two had been transported to Masfjorden from the UK on the Royal Norwegian Navy submarine chaser HNoMS Vigra with orders to establish Bjørn West.
The commanders of these three vessels were required to be commissioned officers and Larsen became the captain of the HNoMS Vigra.
Hotellneset and Adventdalen, both close to Longyearbyen, were rejected because the areas were too small and due to poor weather conditions.
Owned by Sevrin Roald, Arne Roald and Olav Røsvik, of Vigra.
