In his senior season for the Huskers in 1972, he won the Outland Trophy and the Lombardi Award; the second of eight Nebraska winners of the Outland Trophy and the first of five Nebraska winners of the Lombardi Award.
At 6'3" 223 lb, he played college football for the Nebraska Cornhuskers from 1972-74.
