Joveini's brother was the powerful Shams al-Din, who had served as Minister of Finance under Hulagu and Abaqa Khan.
The name Rychaldus is best known for being a member of the Mongol embassy to the Second Council of Lyon in 1274, sent by Abaqa, together with the Dominican missionary David of Ashby.
Among others who attended the council were James I of Aragon, the ambassador of the Emperor Michael VIII Palaiologos with members of the Greek clergy and the ambassadors of Abaqa Khan of the Ilkhanate.
