Among others, he participated in the so-called Agony of Doha match, held in Doha, Qatar in 28 October 1993, between Iraq and Japan, in the qualification for the 1994 FIFA World Cup, that finished draw 2-2, and in which he was the Iraqi goalkeeper.
The Japanese fans now refer to this match as the Agony of Doha, and his absence was one of the main reasons why Japan's campaign ended up unsuccessful.
