Starting in 2006, originally sponsored by the Alys Stephens Center at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Reach and the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame All-Stars have presented free one-hour lessons introducing jazz at schools, colleges and other institutions.
The CD, produced by UAB Music Department faculty members Ray Reach and Henry Panion and recorded at UAB's Alys Stephens Center for the Performing Arts, features arrangements by Founding Director Everett Lawler, trombonist Charlie Ard, saxophonist Neil McLean, arranger Steve Sample, Sr and pianist Ray Reach.
The Alys Stephens Center is also a venue for live recordings, including "Gospel Goes Classical," produced by UAB music professor Henry Panion, and "UAB SuperJazz, Featuring Ellis Marsalis," co-produced by Henry Panion and former UAB Director of Jazz Ensembles, Ray Reach.
