The Kalmunai massacre refers to a series of mass killing that occurred on June, 1990 in Kalmunai, a municipality within the Ampara District of Sri Lanka's Eastern Province.
A total of 37 members were to be elected to the Provincial Council, 14 from the Ampara District, 11 from the Batticaloa District and 10 from the Trincomalee District, with the overall winner gaining two additional "bonus" members.

He was an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Kalmunai police station, Ampara District in 1990.
The Aranthalawa Massacre was the massacre of 33 Buddhist monks, most of them young novice monks, and four civilians by cadres of the rebel Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam organization (the LTTE, commonly known as the Tamil Tigers) on June 2, 1987 close to the village of Aranthalawa, in the Amparadistrict of Eastern Sri Lanka.
He was a TNA candidate for Ampara District at the 2010 parliamentary election but failed to get elected after coming third amongst the TNA candidates.
