In 1968, he collaborated with American engineer Donald Shiley to develop the first "monostrut tilting disc valve" used to replace the aortic or mitral valve.
And on January 7, 2011, he performed double by-pass heart surgery and an aortic valve replacement on legendary Cleveland Cavaliers broadcaster Joe Tait.
On March 13, 2009 he performed heart surgery on Robin Williams, in which he replaced his aortic valve, repaired his mitral valve and corrected his irregular heartbeat, a procedure that took over three and a half hours.
