Jolfa is located to the north of Tabriz, separated by the Aras River from its northern neighbor and namesake, the town of Julfa in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Kulp is a town in Armenia, in the government of Yerevan, 60 miles west-south-west from the town of Erivan and 2 miles south of the Aras River.

Shapur I's inscription at Naqsh-e-Rostam describes the satrapy as "extending to the Caucasus mountains and the Gate of Albania (also known as Gate of the Alans)", but for the most part it was located south of the lower course of the rivers Kura and the Aras (Araxes), bordered on the south by Atropatene, and had the Caspian Sea on its east.
Then, the road was extended to Asheqlu in the banks of Aras river and Oskolou lost most of its importance.
