Mount Arrowsmith, situated east of Port Alberni on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, is named for Aaron Arrowsmith and his nephew John Arrowsmith.
It was first described by Ferdinand von Mueller in 1882, based on specimens collected by him from sandy ridges near the Greenough and Arrowsmith Rivers, and also specimens collected by John Forrest from near the Moore River.
R. L. Arrowsmith wrote "his average rate of scoring has been exceeded only by Jessop ("the Croucher") and equalled by Trumper. His philosophy was to dominate the bowler. "When I am batting," he said, "I am the attack.
Bernays was the son of Dr Adolphus Bernays (a brother of Chakam Isaac Bernays), a professor of German language and literature at King's College London, and his wife Martha, née Arrowsmith, and was born in London.
Among the many projects Dunbier edited for Wildstorm were Alan Moore's America's Best Comics line ( including Promethea, Tom Strong, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen & Top 10), Arrowsmith and Challengers of the Unknown.
Arrowsmith is remembered for his translations of Petronius’s Satyricon (1959) and Aristophanes’ plays The Birds (1961) and The Clouds (1962), as well as Euripides’ Alcestis, Cyclops, Heracles, Orestes, Hecuba, and The Bacchae, as well as other classical and contemporary works.
Moberg and Steinman say that he was motivated by Paul de Kruif’s book Microbe Hunters and by Sinclair Lewis’s novel Arrowsmith, as well as by his experiences with penicillin on the Liberty ships, to become a doctor and medical researcher.
