Audley-Stanley family

Another branch of the Audley family was created by Hugh Audley of Stratton Audley, Baron Audley from 1317, whose son became 1st Earl of Gloucester.

1175 –, Lord of the Welsh Marches, governor of Carmarthen castle and Cardigan Castle, Sheriff of Salop and Staffordshire from 1216 until 1221, constable of Shrewsbury Castle and Bridgnorth Castle,Governor of Shrewsbury, Chester Castle and Beeston Castle, governor of Newcastle-under-Lyne.

The extended Audley family, originally of Audley Castle but who later built (or re-built) Heighley Castle, Madeley, Staffordshire in 1226, had several additional households including Red Castle at Hawkstone in Shropshire, Buglawton Manor in Congleton, Newhall Tower at Combermere and a home in Nantwich.

In 1898, Ickwell Bury was the property of John Edmund Audley Harvey DL JP and was described as "a mansion of red brick, in the Queen Anne style, standing in a park and woodlands of about five hundred acres, approached by an avenue of trees about a mile in length".

James Tuchet, 5th Baron Audley

The two forces clashed in the Battle of Blore Heath on 23 September 1459 and Audley was killed by Sir Roger Kynaston of Stocks near Ellesmere (Kynaston incorporated emblems of the Audley coat-of-arms into his own).

Audley's Cross still stands on the battlefield to this day, and marks the spot where he died.

James Tuchet, 7th Baron Audley

Audley married secondly, about Michaelmas 1488, Joan Bourchier (d. 3 March 1532), daughter of Fulk Bourchier, 10th Baron FitzWarin, and Elizabeth Dynham, by whom he had a son, John Tuchet.

Elizabeth Montfort was the granddaughter of Peter de Montfort of Beaudesert Castle by Alice Audley, and the daughter of Peter de Montfort (d. before 4 March 1287) and Maud de la Mare, daughter of Sir Henry de la Mare (d.1257), of Ashtead, Surrey.

Manx pound

The Fuller Memorandum

Where The Atrocity Archives was written in the idiom of Len Deighton and The Jennifer Morgue was a pastiche of Ian Fleming's James Bond novels, The Fuller Memorandum is a homage of sorts to Anthony Price's Dr David Audley/Colonel Jack Butler series of spy thrillers, and features two minor characters named Roskill and Panin, names which appeared as recurring characters in Price's series.

Thomas Audley, 1st Baron Audley of Walden

Audley was born in Earls Colne, Essex, the son of Geoffrey Audley, and is believed to have studied at Buckingham College, Cambridge.
