Aveling and Porter

Three Aveling and Porter products are found in The Railway Series books by the Rev. W. Awdry and the TV series based on the books: George the Steamroller, Trevor the Traction Engine, and Fergus the Railway Traction Engine.

Francis Aveling

Aveling worked at University College, London from 1912 as a lecturer, under the leadership of Charles Spearman, until the First World War.

Aveling went to school at Bishop Ridley College in Ontario, before studying at McGill University in Quebec, Keble College in Oxford, England, and the Canadian College in Rome where he obtain a Doctor of Divinity qualification.

Many wrongly have reported Doherty wrote and performed this song as an apology for "stealing" Babyshambles band members Patrick Walden and Adam Ficek from Aveling's old band, The White Sport.

The Thomas Aveling School

The school is named after Thomas Aveling, a partner in the world's largest manufacturer of steam rollers in the 19th century, named Aveling and Porter, who were located in Rochester.
