After dropping off the penultimate draft of her senior essay on the terrorist leader Osama bin Laden, at approximately 4:15pm on Friday December 4, 1998, Suzanne Jovin began preparations for a pizza-making party she had organized at the Trinity Lutheran Church on 292 Orange St. for the local chapter of Best Buddies, an international organization that brings together students and mentally disabled adults.
Additional charities include serving on the Board of Directors for Best Buddies International, the foundation started by Anthony Kennedy Shriver, and he and Haley are actively involved with the Women's International Zionist Organization (WIZO).
The portrait of Mrs. Shriver depicts her with four Special Olympics athletes, including Loretta Claiborne, and one Best Buddies participant and was painted by David Lenz, the winner of the Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition in 2006.
2004- Senator Orrin Hatch accepted the first Operation Kids Lifetime Achievement Awards for his efforts to help kids at a legislative level, including founding efforts and funding support for The National Crime Prevention Council, Best Buddies International, and numerous funding initiatives assisting children with critical needs from health insurance to education.
