He attended Bettws High School in Newport and then Crosskeys College, and performed at a number of Newport venues including Le Pub, Meze Lounge, Kama Lounge (Newport), Sessions at The Riverfront, and a number of times at the Celtic Manor.
At Bettws High School in Newport, Hannam won the 1992 Eisteddfod keyboard solo competition with a rendition of 2 Unlimited's European hit 'No Limits'.
