Brooke married second, on May 11, 1635, Mary Mainwaring, daughter of Roger Mainwaring (1582–1653), Dean of Worcester and Bishop of St David's, and his wife Cecilia Proper.

Edward Smallwell (c.1720–1799) was an English bishop of St David's and bishop of Oxford.
The following year, in 1626, Nicholas Ferrar was ordained as a Deacon by William Laud (1573–1645) then Bishop of St David's and later Archbishop of Canterbury.
The chapter of St David's, in an address to Pope Eugenius III of the year 1145, stated that a man named Melan of Llanelwy (Melanus Llanelvensis) was consecrated bishop of St Asaph by Bleiddud while he was bishop of St David's.
Prior to 1175, both manors were then granted to Maurice FitzGerald, Lord of Lanstephan by his brother David FitzGerald, then the second Norman approved bishop of St David's, as part reward for Maurice's appointment as hereditary steward of the episcopate.
