In 1992, Boundary County was the scene of the infamous Ruby Ridge siege by 350-400 armed federal agents against Randy Weaver and his family.

As of 2010, the highway's northern terminus is in Boundary County, Idaho, at the Canadian border crossing of Eastport, where it continues north as BC 95.
On September 30, 2009 Colton Harris-Moore broke into and stole a Cessna 182 Turbo aircraft from Boundary County Airport, navigating over the high west ridge and westward through Washington state, over and across the Cascade Mountains and finally crash-landing outside of Granite Falls, Washington.
