He was MP for Caernarvonshire from 1945 (when he replaced the similarly named Liberal MP Goronwy Owen) until 1950, and then for Caernarvon from 1950 until February 1974, when he lost his seat to Dafydd Wigley of Plaid Cymru.
However by May 1643 Bodvel had become a commissioner of array for Caernarvonshire and a Custos Rotulorum of Anglesey.
