Ludwig was nominated as the Liberal candidate in Calgary Foothills only days before the 1997 Alberta general election but was unable to regain a seat in the legislature and was defeated by incumbent Pat Black.
Locke was the Liberal candidate in the provincial district of Calgary-Foothills in the 1989 Alberta provincial election, narrowly losing to Progressive Conservative Pat Black.
After his leadership election, Schmidt ran in the electoral district of Calgary-Foothills in a by-election held on June 25, 1973 but was defeated by Stewart McCrae.
