San Francisco's Caspar W. Weinberger, Chairman of the California Assembly Government Organization Committee, held a series of state-wide hearings in 1954 and 1955 focused on creating a State Water Project that could supply the growing municipal and agricultural demands of the state.
In the early 1990s KDIA was co-owned by then mayor of Oakland, California, Elihu Harris with then California Assembly Speaker Willie Brown.
On March 26, 1946, California assembly bill 75 was signed by Governor Earl Warren, future United States Supreme Court Chief Justice, authorizing appropriations to establish the Southern California School for the Deaf, later renamed the California School for the Deaf, Riverside.
