Kyle was disqualified after hitting Olsen with illegal strikes, for which he was placed on the national suspension list by CSAC.
In 1997 he was appointed Commissioner to the California State Athletic Commission and was a member if the Oversight Committee of the Department of Health Service for California.

The fight was originally ruled as a technical knockout victory for Dawson in the second round, but was later changed to a no contest by the California State Athletic Commission and a technical draw by the World Boxing Council.
