In 2003, Nicholson was the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award by the Canadian Association of Former Parliamentarians.
The Institute was established in June, 2006, as a joint project of the Canadian Association of Former Parliamentarians, the United States Association of Former Members of Congress, and the European Parliament Former Members Association.
In 2005, Comtois was the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award of the Canadian Association of Former Parliamentarians.
He served as a trustee of the Sturgeon Hospital Foundation and was an active member of the Canadian Association of Former Parliamentarians.
