It replaced the comedy show Videomatch in 2004, and from 2006 has produced the dancing contest Bailando por un sueño ("Dancing for a Dream"), along with similar contests such as Cantando por un Sueño ("Singing for a Dream"), Patinando por un Sueño ("Skating for a Dream"), and El Musical de tus Sueños ("The Musical of your Dreams").
Born in Miami Beach, Florida, and raised in Panama, she has performed acting roles in stage productions such as Peter Pan, Legally Blonde, Aladdin, Victor/Victoria, Beauty and the Beast, Fiddler On The Roof (all musicals) and television shows such as Sueños de Verano, Cantando por un Sueño, La Ultima Hora, Lobby T.V. and ¿Quien T.V.?
After her participation in the 2007 Miss Universe pageant she competed in Cantando por un sueño, a singing competition in Paraguay, based on the British program It Takes Two, on November 2007 during the final show, Maria and her partner, Sebastián Castillo, were placed second in the competition.
