Georg Guðni won several awards for his work, including DV Cultural Award in 1988, he was nominated for the Ars Fennica Award in 2000 and three times he was nominated for the Carnegie Art Award.
In 1995 Wörsel was awarded the Eckersberg Medal, and in 2002 he won Carnegie Art Award's first prize with three paintings all of which were executed on the reverse of the canvas.

In 1988, Carnegie Investment Bank established the Carnegie Art Award to be presented to artists born in, or living in, the Nordic countries.
