The season was marred by the death of Allan Simonsen in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
This was a goodbye to nearly 30 years in the ministry under different Danish Ministers of Finance from the political left and right such as Anders Andersen, Knud Heinesen, Svend Jakobsen, Henning Christophersen, Palle Simonsen, Henning Dyremose and Mogens Lykketoft.
The owner of a business conglomerate of over 30 companies, including Panair do Brasil, TV Excelsior, and coffee export company Comal (at a time when coffee made up two thirds of the country's exports), Simonsen became one of the wealthiest and most influential men of Brazil.
After cleaning of the scaffold, the priest Jørgen Tandberg assisted Simonsen, who talked to the public about his miserable life.
The revelation came after an acrimonious divorce involving his daughter, Cecilie Ditlev-Simonsen, the communications director of Norsk Hydro.
