Central Hockey League

The Central Hockey League (CHL) was revived in 1992 by Ray Miron and the efforts of Bill Levins, with the idea of central ownership of both the league and the teams.

In October 2013, the CHL appointed former president of the Pittsburgh Penguins and President of NHL Enterprises for fifteen years Steve Ryan as its league Commissioner.


Alex Dunn

Alex Dunn (born January 26, 1982 in Waterford, Michigan) is an American professional ice hockey player, currently playing for the Odessa Jackalopes of the CHL after his release at the end of the 2008/09 season by the Manchester Phoenix of the EIHL.

Bob Birdsell

He also played the 1970–71 season in the Central Hockey League with the Kansas City Blues and Amarillo Wranglers, and then played two seasons with the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League before retiring following the 1972–73 season.

Bob Gassoff

Following his death, the Bob Gassoff Trophy was created to be presented annually to the most improved defenceman in the Central Hockey League (CHL).

Cumberland County Crown Coliseum

During the early stages of its construction, Fayetteville’s Crown Coliseum was mentioned as a possible temporary home for the NHL’s Carolina Hurricanes, but this was blocked by minor-league hockey executive Bill Coffey who had signed an exclusive lease agreement with the arena for the Fayetteville Force of the Central Hockey League.

Gerry Ouellette

He then captained the Omaha Knights of the Central Hockey League (CHL) to the Adams Cup in 1970–71 and later joined the Campbellton Tigers of the North Shore New Brunswick senior league where he helped them win the Hardy Cup in 1972, 1977 and 1988; the last two wins as coach.

Matt Smyth

In December 2007 Smyth joined the Corpus Christi IceRays of the Central Hockey League (CHL) where he played until he was traded to the Tulsa Oilers in February 2009 in exchange for Jereme Tendler.

Paul Deniset

He was then traded to the Swift Current Broncos and then spent a full season with the Prince Albert Raiders before briefly playing in the Central Hockey League with the Oklahoma City Blazers for their playoff run during the 2001-02 season.

Willi Plett

The Flames assigned Plett to their minor league affiliate, the Tulsa Oilers of the Central Hockey League (CHL), for the 1975–76 season where developed under the team's coach, and former NHL enforcer, Orland Kurtenbach.
