Chinstrap Penguin

In 2004, two male chinstrap penguins named Roy and Silo in Central Park Zoo, New York City, formed a pair-bond and took turns trying to “hatch” a rock; this was substituted by a keeper for a fertile egg, and the pair subsequently hatched and raised the chick.

Cloud rat

London Zoo, Prague Zoo, Central Park Zoo and the Bronx Zoo are the only locations outside of the Philippines where cloud rats are bred in captivity.

Myopia in animals

In Central Park Zoo, New York, several myopic animals have been reported, including a 39-year-old elephant, a Cape buffalo, and some monkeys.
