The Cathedral itself is also situated in the heart of the most densely populated area in Johor Bahru, surrounded by housing estates such as Taman Sri Tebrau, Taman Pelangi, Century Garden, Melodies Garden, Taman Sentosa, Kebun Teh, and Majidee Park.

The garden at Easton Lodge, Essex, designed by Harold Peto inherited what was now called a bosquet but was originally a seventeenth-century garden wilderness, the "curious" English variant of the bosquet: "This ornamental grove or thicket was planted with native tree species approximately 400 years ago and originally included a path network of concentric circles and radiating lines." (ref. Easton Lodge)
The stone lies in the remains of an 18th-century garden created by Charlotte Boscawen, Dowager Lady Falmouth (the daughter of Hugh Boscawen - see Great Cornish families).
