Cherokee County, Georgia

It is bisected by Interstate 575, which runs from Marietta north through Woodstock, Lebanon, Holly Springs, Canton, the county seat, and Ball Ground, ending at the Pickens County line into Georgia 515, the Appalachian Parkway developmental highway.

Cherokee County, South Carolina

Cherokee County is the only county to have three national parks within its boundaries: The Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail, Kings Mountain National Military Park and Cowpens National Battlefield.

Tate, Georgia

In December 1832 Cherokee County was divided into seven other counties and the town was renamed Tate after Colonel Sam Tate in 1880.

It was the first county seat for Cherokee County, which functioned as a large territory rather than a true county during the State of Georgia's initial organization of the final Cherokee territory within the state.


H. Lawrence Gibbs

Gibbs was first married to the former Bobbie Regina Hibbard (October 22, 1921–June 30, 1969), a native of Jacksonville in Cherokee County, Texas, the daughter of L. Jackson Hibbard and the former Lora Lexie Palmore.

Killough massacre

The massacre took place on October 5, 1838, near Larissa (north of Jacksonville) in the northwestern part of Cherokee County.
