For the construction bricks were taken from a monastery, St. Clare's Priory near today's Sergels torg (Sankta Klara kloster) destroyed in 1527 and churches from the ridges surrounding the city was used.
Edmond (1833), a passenger sailing ship that sank off the coast of Kilkee, Co. Clare in 1850 with the loss of 98 lives.
The convent and church of St. Clare was founded on the site in 1280s.
The monastic buildings then came into use as a mint, which after its decommissioning became known as the Old Mint, giving rise to the present day street name Gammel Mønt at the site.
