Presently, there are six Greek parties represented in the European Parliament: New Democracy, PASOK, Communist Party of Greece (KKE), Coalition of the Radical Left (Syriza), Popular Orthodox Rally (LAOS) and Ecologist Greens.

MAA was formed in April 2011 by a splinter group of the Coalition of the Radical Left, that followed Alekos Alavanos (former President of Synaspismos).

Four parties that participated in the Coalition of the Radical Left (KOE, DEA, KEDA and APO), supported Alekos Alavanos in the local elections in Attica.
The Socialist Party spoke highly of the success of Die Linke in Germany, the New Anticapitalist Party in France and Coalition of the Radical Left in Greece.
