4 unusual facts about Colorado State Highway 72


Bark Ranch, Colorado

Overland Road forms the northern edge of the community, leading east to Jamestown and Altona and west to State Highway 72, the Peak to Peak Highway.

Colorado State Highway 7

Near the community of Raymond it intersects State Highway 72, which takes the Peak-to-Peak Scenic Byway designation with it to the south, while Route 7 turns to the east and follows South St. Vrain Creek downstream onto the piedmont at Lyons, where it intersects U.S. Highway 36.

Tall Timber, Colorado

Sugarloaf Road runs through the center of the CDP, leading south to State Highway 119 (Boulder Canyon Drive) and west to Sugarloaf and eventually the Peak to Peak Highway.

Ward, Colorado

Once one of the richest towns in the state during the Colorado Gold Rush, it is located on a mountainside at the top of Left Hand Canyon, near the Peak-to-Peak Highway (State Highway 72) northwest of Boulder.
