The builder, James Goyen, (10 May 1905 to 3 April 1984) constructed many houses and other buildings in the St George District, south of the Cooks River, New South Wales, Australia.
Following some modifications, it entered service on 8 September 1965 as a shunter at Cooks River Goods Yard.

The name derives from a local creek branching from the Cooks River, and Wolli Junction is the name of the original junction point for the East Hills line from the Illawarra line at this site.
The New South Wales National Parks and Wildlife Branch of the Department of Environment and Climate Change has identified the gardens as part of the recovery plan for certain environments and species, including Cooks River clay plain scrub forest, Acacia pubescens (downy wattle) and Wahlenbergia multicaulis (Tadgell's bluebell).
