3 unusual facts about Dallas Love Field


Greater Southwest International Airport

The airport never reached capacity and saw its traffic dwindle while traffic at Love Field in Dallas continued to grow.

Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) opened in 1974 a few miles north of the airport to replace both Greater Southwest and Dallas Love Field as the single main airport for the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex (though Love Field survives).

North Lake College

In 2012 a Dallas Area Rapid Transit train station opened on North Lake's central campus, connecting it to downtown Dallas and Dallas Love Field on the Orange Line.


Braniff Flight 352

Braniff International Airways Flight 352 was a scheduled domestic flight from William P. Hobby Airport in Houston, Texas, United States to Dallas Love Field in Dallas; on May 3, 1968 a Lockheed L-188A Electra flying on the route, registration N9707C, broke up in mid air and crashed near Dawson, Texas after flying into a severe thunderstorm.

Nancy Harkness Love

By June 1943, Nancy Love was commanding four different squadrons of WAFS at Love Field, Texas; New Castle, Delaware; Romulus, Michigan; and Long Beach, California.
