Miss Christian Dalrymple of New Hailes (30 December 1765 - 9 January 1839) daughter of Sir David Dalrymple (1726-92), 3rd Baronet, Lord Hailes by his first marriage to Anne Brown.

Though more highly trusted than Sir David Dalrymple, the Lord Advocate, by the Duke of Roxburghe, he felt this an irksome position, and in 1718 applied to succeed Eliot of Minto on the bench; but the place was already given to Sir Walter Pringle.
Wood incorporated in it a number of corrections of the first edition made by Lord Hailes (some of his unpublished critical comments were given by James Maidment).
