A product of Denby High School in Detroit, Michigan, and later Michigan State University, Ed Budde was chosen as the number one draft pick of the American Football League's Kansas City Chiefs (then the Dallas Texans) in 1963.
Teaming with Howard Scarborough, JC Smith and Richard Boka; Tashnick and company sealed victory for Mackenzie by defeating Denby High in the final event.

After playing in Canada he was a physical education teacher in the Detroit school system and continued to coach football; winning city league championships at Denby and Cooley High School.
