He joined the Indian Civil Service in 1900 and went out to India at the end of 1901, where he was posted to the United Provinces, serving as an Assistant Magistrate and Collector.
He was assistant successively to the collector of Bareilly, the political agent at Delhi, and the collector of the southern division of Muradabad; secretary to the Sudder board of Revenue for the North-Western Provinces; and (1847) secretary to the governor-general in council for the foreign department.
In recognition of his services, the then District Collector Dr. Abid Hussain recommended his name to the Government for the President's Award.
Upon a Government order issued by Chief minister M. Karunanidhi, on 25 December 2008, Dalits led by the district collector G Prakash and Superintendent of Police Asra Garg entered the temple despite the protest and resentment of non-Dalits, following which it is to remain open and poojas be performed on a regular basis by all.
