Mitting attended the Roman Catholic independent school Downside School and earned an LL.B at Trinity Hall, Cambridge.

Jon Callard

Sexual abuse scandal in the English Benedictine Congregation

In January 2012, Father Richard White, a monk at Downside Abbey, near Westfield, Somerset, who formerly taught at its school, was jailed for five years for gross indecency and indecent assault against a pupil in the late 1980s.


Bernard Ullathorne

In February 1823, aged 16, he was sent to Downside, near Bath, where he was mentored by John Bede Polding, afterwards the first Archbishop of Sydney, who influenced him greatly.

Oliver Crosthwaite-Eyre
