The West Australian Football League toured India in 1969, playing a series of exhibition matches between East Perth and Subiaco Football Clubs, which attracted large crowds and interest.

Lovett played for the Northern Knights in the TAC Cup and North Heidelberg in the Northern Football League before relocating to Perth to play for East Perth in the West Australian Football League (WAFL), where he hoped he could be drafted into the AFL.
The Thunder in 1997 won only one game against Claremont in the satellite town of Rockingham and finished last, with Scott Simister winning the inaugural best and fairest, and won only one further game in their next two seasons against East Perth at Perth Oval.
