Prepping for past gigs included dressing as if they were starring in the Ice Capades, crafting massive Native American headresses, and making vats of theatrical blood in the Dompe family kitchen for a Carrie-themed summertime barbecue at The Echo in Echo Park.
The Shys' new album "You'll Never Understand This Band The Way That I Do" was released on July 22, 2008, on local Echo Park Indie label Aeronaut Records.

The cancellation of Echo Park Dam, a proposal in the scenic downstream Green River canyon of Echo Park, was won by environmentalists primarily from the Sierra Club, at that time led by David Brower.
Founded in 1903 in the name of two-term Mayor James R. Toberman, Toberman house is the oldest charity in the city of Los Angeles, and the oldest United Methodist mission project in the Western U.S. It was originally located in Echo Park, but moved to Boyle Heights in 1917, then San Pedro in 1937.
Its boundaries are roughly Echo Park Avenue on the west, Sunset Boulevard on the north and east, and the Hollywood Freeway on the south.
Seventeen years later, an ad appeared in the Los Angeles Times classifieds which caught the attention of the Graham family as well as KFI disc jockey Geoff Edwards, who read it on the air: "DEAREST ROBIN You ran out of gas on the Hollywood Frwy. A man in a Corvette pulled over to help. You've not been seen of since. It's been 17 years, but it's always just yesterday. Still looking for you (signed) THE ECHO PARK DUCKS."
This section of Echo Park has always been a puzzle, especially since it was separated from its northern portion by the US 101 Freeway in the 1950s and the southern section of the park where the tennis courts and baseball field are located.
A small but politically effective group of objectors led by David Brower of the Sierra Club succeeded in defeating the Bureau's bid, citing Echo Park's natural and scenic qualities as too valuable to submerge.
