After studying anthropology for 3 years on the Universidad Nacional, he worked with El Tiempo newspaper from 1967 to 1977 as a general columnist.
Nieto also worked as a journalist, writing for several Colombian publications including the El Espectador, El Universal and the El Tiempo.
Best known for composing the music scores of some of Spain's most critically acclaimed and commercially successful TV series in recent years, including Los Protegidos, La Chica de Ayer (Spanish remake of the blockbuster BBC show Life on Mars), Vive Cantando and El Tiempo Entre Costuras (The Time In Between)–based on Spain's biggest bestseller novel by author Maria Dueñas.
The DVD features a full-length concert in which she performs her greatest hits like "Lo Siento" and "Ángel", as well as past hits from novelas like "¡Amigos X Siempre!", "Aventuras En El Tiempo" and "Cómplices Al Rescate".
He has written for such well-known newspapers as El Nacional of Caracas, Venezuela, El Tiempo (Bogotá, Colombia) and the Observateur of Haiti.
In 1986 his frontline reporting for El Tiempo was published as Crónica de la guerra Carlista. Enero y Febrero de 1876 (Chronicle of the Carlist War: January and February 1876) with a prologue by his grandson, Julio Caro Baroja.
