Emin is married to Leyla Aliyeva, the daughter of the current President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev; she edits the London-based Baku magazine, published by Crocus International.
With Emin he went to the Victoria Nyanza and then spent almost a year in explorations between that lake and Uganda.

Emin's former boyfriend, former Stuckist artist Billy Childish, stated that he also had an old bed of hers in the shed which he would make available for £20,000.
