Awsworth once had a station on the Great Northern (later LNER) line from Nottingham to Derby which crossed the Erewash Valley to Ilkeston over the Bennerley Viaduct, closed in September 1964.
Finally in 1844 it built the Erewash Valley line as far as Pinxton in 1847, with a link to the Butterley Company's own railway at Codnor Park in 1849.
The Mansfield and Pinxton Railway was an early horse-drawn railway in the United Kingdom, completed in 1819 to transport coal to Mansfield from the head of the Pinxton branch of the Cromford Canal from collieries along the Erewash valley served by the Erewash Canal.
