In addition to the municipal seat, it contains the settlements of San Antonio de las Alazanas, El Tunal, San Juan de los Dolores, Huachichil, Los Lirios, Mesa de Tablas, Bella Unión, Escobedo, and Jamé.
Avenida Río San Joaquín is an elevated freeway in Mexico City extending from the Anillo Periférico beltway just outside the Mexican Federal District in Naucalpan, State of Mexico, in the west, to Avenida General Mariano Escobedo, in the east, at the juncture of the Polanco, Nuevo Polanco (Colonia Granada), and Anzures areas, continuing eastwards as Avenida Ejercito Nacional towards the Circuito Interior.
Once in Nuevo Ideal, it becomes central transit point where the main roads that communicate Northwest and Northeast Durango separate (the road going northwest to Tepehuanes is paved while the one going to Escobedo, Durango towards the northeast, is a dirt road).
