Richard Parker was the son of a grain merchant and he attended Exeter School, giving him a level of education and prestige above his fellow sailors.
At the turn of the century Morgan was Chief Executive of the North & East Devon Health AUthority, based in Exeter where her husband was teacher at Exeter School.
He returned to England in 1972 and was Head of French at Exeter School until his retirement in 1991.
He has been a governor of a number of schools over the years, including Blackheath High School, the Dragon School, Exeter School, and Port Regis School.
