With the end of that miniseries, Alex was not seen again until he appeared on the cover of Avengers: The Initiative #1 (in his Zero-G costume) as one of 150 Marvel superheroes either involved with, or being considered as potential recruits by the Fifty State Initiative.
In the Marvel Universe, Jump Gates are used by the United States Government to connect each state superhero team of the Fifty State Initiative with the Negative Zone's Prison 42 and in turn the other states Jump Gates.
Originally written by Brian Michael Bendis, also the writer of New Avengers, the title first featured an officially sanctioned Avengers team of registered superheroes, residing in New York as part of the Fifty State Initiative, as opposed to the unlicensed team featured in The New Avengers.
