Gomez was on the original staff of Say Brother (now Basic Black), one of the first weekly Black television shows (WGBH-TV Boston, 1968), and was on the founding board of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) in 1984.
And as an event host and emcee, she has participated in the GLAAD Media Awards, The Trevor Project and Cable Positive.
In 2005, Hogestyn and co-star Lindze Letherman appeared in a Public Service Announcement for the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (or GLAAD).
