unusual facts about General John Forbes



Forbes Avenue

It has a length of about ten miles (16 km) and is named for John Forbes (1707–1759), whose expedition recaptured Fort Duquesne and who renamed the place Pittsburgh in 1758.

John Stanwix

After his relief by General John Forbes in 1758, General Stanwix went to Albany, New York, whence he was ordered to the Oneida carrying-place, to secure that important position by the erection of a work which was called Fort Stanwix in his honor.

Slate Roof House

It was the death site for General Charles Lee and for General John Forbes, second in command, and afterwards successor to General Edward Braddock.
