In 1840 was opened the missionary settlement at Grace Dieu, the seat of de Lisle, from which as a centre they evangelized much of the surrounding country.

His father, a close associate of Thomas Cromwell, was a key figure in the Irish administration between about 1535 and 1542: initially opposed to the Dissolution of the Monasteries, he turned in time to profit handsomely, acquiring Grace Dieu in Dublin and Knocktopher in Kilkenny.

His son Sir Francis Beaumont was also a judge and his grandson John Beaumont was created the first of the Beaumont baronets of Grace Dieu in 1627.

In 1833, Charles March Phillips gave the manor of Grace Dieu to his son, Ambrose Lisle March Phillips, following his marriage.
