Alexander Grant MacKay was born in Sydenham, Ontario in Grey County on March 7, 1860 to parents Hugh MacKay and Katherine McInnis.
He was born in St. Vincent township, Grey County, Ontario, the son of Andrew Howe and Margaret Lyness, and was educated at the Ontario College of Pharmacy.
By the period when the Wyandot migrated to Wendake (on the south shore of Georgian Bay in modern-day Simcoe and Grey counties in Ontario), these mortuary rituals came to represent the unity and friendship of Wyandot bands.
Dundalk (named after Dundalk in Ireland), originally called McDowell's Corners, was incorporated as a village in 1887, and on January 1, 2000, was amalgamated with the Township of Proton and the Township of Egremont to form the Township of Southgate, located in the southeast corner of Grey County.
