Many of her works have been published by Boosey and Hawkes and she has been commissioned to write pieces by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, the Hannaford Street Silver Band, the International Women's Brass Conference, the Laidlaw Foundation, the Oberlin Choristers, the Ontario Arts Council, and the Royal Canadian College of Organists among others.
Laughton founded Opening Day Recordings in 1993 as a means of promoting Canadian music and musicians such as pianist Janina Fialkowska, harpist Judy Loman, composer R. Murray Schafer, soprano Mary Lou Fallis and the Hannaford Street Silver Band with conductor Bramwell Tovey.
