In the 1863, H.B. Tristram visited the village, which he described as Druze and Christian, with a Christian Sheikh.

Oil-tree

"It has a fine hard wood", says Tristram, "and yields an inferior oil, but it has no relationship to the olive, which, however, it resembles in general appearance".


Upcher's Warbler

Ehrenberg's original description of this bird was 'rather vague' and it was redescribed by Henry Baker Tristram in 1864, naming it Hippolais upcheri after his friend Henry Morris Upcher.
